When you are in a bad mood there is nothing that seems to please you. You are down in the dumps and make the people around you feel the same way too. Here are some tips that will help you snap out of a bad mood in five minutes flat!
The attire: Make an effort to change into clothes you will wear when going out. Do your hair and make-up as if you are about to have a great evening with friends. A person well turned out will definitely feel better than one with a bedraggled appearance… Go on… try it out…There are studies that have proved this.
Take the day off! Step aside from your routine. Take the day off from mundane tasks like making up the grocery list or answering the email…Instead, shop for a new dress, buy the dinner instead of preparing it (or vice versa, depending on the routine), curl up in bed with your favorite book, your favorite photo album and some munchies, buy some new plants for the garden or watch a movie you always wanted to….Sometimes breaking the routine to get up late and having breakfast in bed does wonders to your low feeling…
Music: When down in the dumps, play music that will really uplift you. For some it may be an exquisite symphony of a maestro, for some it may be a “Guns N’ Roses number while for you it may be a beautiful Barbara Streisand song. As Berthold Auerbach says “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”.
Exercise: Did you know that inactivity and general laziness makes you feel down? In contrast, the flow of adrenalin when you sweat it out with exercise - is definitely a mood lifter. It’s not necessary that you work out doing cardio exercises - you can also dance to your favorite tune; you can go into a spring cleaning campaign or take a walk along your favorite route. It’s time for action so rise up to it… you will only be making yourself feel better!
The listener: So many people have felt better when they have stopped worrying about themselves and instead tried to solve another’s problems. Sometimes, lending a sympathetic ear goes a long way to help your friend get rid of her blues! Seeing her happy gives you a pleasant high and helps you feel so much more better than you were feeling for the past few days.
Reach for that phone: Calling a friend, when you just want to run away from everything, really helps. Never mind the phone bill for once, pour out your heart to her and feel gratified for the interest she takes in your troubles… her advice may be invaluable. Maybe your call is interrupted and you have to exchange hurried goodbyes…yet speaking to her even for a short time will make you feel infinitely better.
Rich dark chocolate: It’s been proven that chocolates are mood lifters. Have some. In fact if you are stressed out because of pain then chocolate is what you should have. Chocolates are capable of helping release endorphins in the brain. Endorphins are pan relievers. Because chocolates contain chemicals that prevent blood clot and heart attacks they are great stress relievers too. Research shows that people who consume cocoa beans regularly have lower stress levels… So what are you waiting for? Reach for that chocolate and feel better!
Fun times with friends: When in a bad mood you don’t want to meet anyone. Nonetheless, if you make the effort to call a friend over or if you walk over to her place… the effort would be well worth it…All you have to do is to let your hair down, have a sumptuous meal, laugh over recalled incidents and keep each other abreast of the latest news in the friends’ circle… After an hour or so of this ‘therapy’ you would be wondering why you felt so low, just a little while ago!
