AIDS

This disease is also known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and is primarily caused by the human immunodeficiency virus. It was first discovered in the late 1970’s but the research for a cure was not started until mid 1980s. It basically weakens your immune system and makes you susceptible to various diseases that comes one after the other.

AIDS is something that should really be taken seriously because it had no apparent symptoms upon onset. This means that you can have it but still don’t know about it until it’s too late. However, you can prevent it by practicing safe sex and avoid being infected by using sterilized hospital tools and the like.

By doing this, you would be able to protect yourself against infection and allow yourself to live a normal life without worrying about contracting the disease. According to research, it is primarily contracted through sexual intercourse and the transfusion of infected blood as well as the use of unsterilized needles.

However, you do not have to worry because it is not a communicable disease. Meaning, it is not airborne. You cannot be infected by it through drinking an infected person’s glass of water. You do have to be careful about open wounds. If ever you become infected and you have an open wound, take care not to let other people touch you because the infected blood may externally reach their system If you are not careful.

This being said, just because you are HIV positive doesn’t mean that you should stop living your life. There are recently discovered medications that you can take to make sure that you remain as healthy as possible despite the presence of the virus in your system.

Some patients are able to live for longer than 10 years which are the first years of incubation for HIV. The important thing that you have to remember is to live a healthy life and protect yourself as much as possible.

Remember that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. If you’re unable to prevent yourself from ever coming into a situation where you can get HIV, then it would be much better than having to deal with the disease itself.

You’re the only one who can protect yourself primarily from the disease. It is something that only you can handle. So you have to really a research about it and know as much as you can about the condition so that you would be aware of how to handle the situation in case you encounter it in the future.

AIDS is something that you don’t have to deal with. If you are able to practice safe sex and avoid situations where you can be susceptible to the infection, then it would be easy for you to prevent yourself from getting the disease.

Remember that your own protection lies within your hands. You can ask help from others but the ultimate decision lies in you. You have to arm yourself with knowledge so that you would know what you’re up against.
