Ayurveda For Menopause

According to Ayurveda, the 5000 year old ancient Indian healthcare system, menopause is often associated with the process of aging in women.  It is just a natural transition in women at the age of 45 to 55 years. Typically, there are three types of menopause - vata dominated menopause, pitta dominated menopause and kapha dominated menopause.  Ayurveda lays emphasis in the process of identifying the dosha imbalance and restoring the body equilibrium.

Depending upon the person’s dosha type menopause can exhibit different symptoms. For instance, the Vata-type menopausal symptoms include anxiety, depression, and insomnia.  Pitta-type symptoms are mostly anger and hot flashes. People of Kapha type menopause show symptoms like weight gain and feelings of heaviness. The type of treatment depends upon the dosha disturbance and each type of menopause needs different treatments.  There are some common symptoms of menopause that are experienced by most women.

Bark of Arjun tree, Cardamom, Garlic, Guggul, Mukul and Sandalwood are other herbs that are useful in the treatment of menopause.
