One particular type of allergy tests that usually are given to patients who show some kind of allergic reactions to certain substances is the blood test or more formally known as allergen-specific IgE blood test.

This test aims to determine if a person is allergic to specific types of elements in the environment. This test is usually done if the person in question already exhibits various signs and symptoms of allergic reaction.
Here are some of those signs and symptoms that you should watch out for before you decide to undergo the blood tests for allergens.
  • Swelling
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Hives
  • Rashes
  • Nasal congestion, sneezing and coughing
  • Eczema, etc.
If you experience any of the symptoms, it is time for you to go to the doctor and have yourself tested for any sign of allergies whether it be food allergies, or allergies to pollutants and other elements in the environment.
If you are able to do this, you would be able to prevent yourself from experiencing much more trouble as a result of neglected allergies. It is also important that you know the signs and symptoms of these various allergies because you will not only be able to help yourself but other people in your family as well.
What if the test comes back with a negative result? This may mean that the person in question is not allergic to the specific type of allergens that he was subjected to. However, it does not mean that the patient has no allergies anymore.
A negative result just shows that he may not be allergic to one specific type of allergen. Further testing should be done in order to really find out which substances may cause allergies for a specific patient.
Aside from the IgE blood test, there are many other allergy tests that you can take to make yourself aware of anything that may cause you to have allergic reactions. Some of these tests include.
The Skin Test
This will determine if you have any kind of skin allergies. This is usually done by introducing a certain type of allergen through the dermis. It can be done in two ways, the prick test and the patch test.
The prick or scratch test is administered to the patient by pricking the skin with a needle containing allergens. If your skin reacts to the allergens in the needle, you most likely have allergies that affect your external dermal layer.
The patch test is done by applying a patch over your skin. This patch is usually black in color and may contain the same amount of allergens to test for any type of reactions from your body.
These are just two of the many other tests that you can undergo to find out what kind of allergies you have. By doing these tests, you will be able to become aware of your allergies and therefore find the necessary treatment that will relieve you of its ill effects on your body.
It is important that you are aware of your physical triggers because it can save you from any other life threatening diseases that may be caused by simple allergies in the body.
