Dermabrasion Acne Scars

Dermabrasion is the most common methods of removing the acne scars from the skin. It removes the upper layer of the skin and is also known as the surgical skin planning.

Dermabrasion helps in making the surface irregularities of skin plain and also reduces skin wrinkles. A few people go for dermabrasion for treating the fine lines around the mouth area. It is also used to improve the look of the facial skin.

Dermabrasion procedure is performed in the specific areas of skin or on the entire face. The medical history of the patient is kept in mind before going in for the procedure. The area where there are acne scars is cleansed thoroughly with an antiseptic cleansing agent and a freezing spray is applied to numb the skin. After giving general anesthesia to the patient, a wire brush with rough edges is rotated rapidly on the area, so as to strip the top layers of the skin. Skin relaxing ointments are then applied and dressing is done.

There are many side-effects of the procedure as there is pain and painkillers are prescribed to the patient. The skin has a red appearance and gives a raw look. In about 10 days time the skin grows back and within 10 weeks the new skin or the pink skin fades away and the normal color of the skin comes up. You have to take proper care of the skin when you the skin is healing as it is new and more susceptible to infection or any other complications. There should proper taken of during healing like cleansing the skin a number of times a day. The dressing should be changed regularly and ointment as advised by the doctor should be applied on the area. Avoid going in the hot sun and if you go out, then apply sunscreen lotion on that area.

As is the case with every procedure, there are certain side-effects of dermabrasion, like the increased color of skin), lasting redness, tissue damage, scarring and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Also, there are chances of infection and swelling of the treated area. As there is increased chances of infection it is not dine when acne is active

It has been observed that though dermabrasion improves the look of skin, it does not remove the scar completely. It is successful in getting rid of a minor scar or a raised scar. The result of this procedure depends on the age, skin color, skin type and medical history of the patient. So consult a dermatologist before going through the pros and cons of the technique.

Plastic surgeons also use dermabrasion for the treatment of acne scar. The procedures remove the old skin and produces smoother skin by getting rid of the outer layer of skin so that new tissue grows and replaces the old. Though not very complicated, it is a medical procedure so it s best if it is done under the supervision of an efficient surgeon.
