Does Caffeine Have Side Effects On Pregnancy

Many people rely upon coffee for energizing them when they feel tired. Following are some beverages in addition to coffee that are rich in caffeine content: some energy drinks, tea and also soft drinks. Once people get addicted to caffeine, they will find it difficult to break the habit. Some choose less strong coffee and coffee brewed differently. While generally it is advisable to restrict the caffeine content, those women who have diagnosed to be pregnant must definitely consider giving up coffee and other beverages known to contain caffeine. If it is not possible immediately, the advice is to reduce coffee intake to prevent any serious complications.

As Soon As Coffee is Consumed

Let us first understand what happens after caffeine is consumed. It is known that caffeine has the property of moving inside the body in a rapid manner i.e. within a few minutes. The blood pressure and heart beat of the person rise. This can be expected as caffeine is known to be a stimulant. Consumption of caffeine containing foods can also leave the pregnant woman in a dehydrated state. The body will also find absorbing some types of nutrients difficult when caffeine intake is excessive. The woman can also suffer from tiredness or headache as it takes a few hours for the coffee to leave the body.

Coffee Worsens Hypertension and Acidity Problems

Those who are already suffering from physical conditions like: high blood pressure will find that their condition worsens upon consuming caffeine containing products. Pregnant women will also find difficulty in getting sleep, if they keep consuming caffeine regularly. They can also suffer from acidity problems which can be prevented, if they limit the intake of caffeine. Not only this, pregnant women must also be aware that they are putting their fetus under significant threat of less weight or even miscarriage. All this explanation means that just like a pregnant woman forces herself to give up the habits of drinking alcohol and smoking; she must also stay away from caffeine.

Excess Caffeine Increases the Chances of Miscarriage

The difficultly faced while trying to give up caffeine consumption is the inherent property of caffeine: it makes the person addictive. As chocolate, nuts and seeds too contain caffeine; you must be aware of this and stay away from them. The more the amount of caffeine consumed, the more are the ill effects produced by it. The risk of miscarriage looms high for even those pregnant women who have the habit of drinking above a couple of cups of coffee. Those who have risks of undergoing a miscarriage too must reduce or stop daily coffee consumption.

You can start moving away from caffeine by replacing items that have more caffeine content with those that have lesser caffeine content. You should also find better replacements for beverages that contain caffeine. The choice lies entirely upon you as some prefer to consume decaffeinated coffee, instead of the regular coffee. You will be successful in breaking the habit of drinking coffee in due course. Thus, you can approach breaking the habit slowly but steadily.
