Hirsutism Treatment

Hirsutism is a condition that demonstrates up as unnecessary growth of dark, coarse body and facial hair in women. This hair growth is thought to be abnormal as mostly men have hair in such places. Some level of hair is normal to have, but in hirsutism women have increased levels of male sex hormones called androgens from their ovaries and adrenal glands, which is the means for the extreme growth. Most cases of hirsutism are not severe and have no underlying cause.

If you are facing this problem, then you can undergo medical treatment by an endocrinologist or dermatologist. They will be able to diagnose high levels of hormones by getting blood tests done. There are many medications available on the market which assists with the treatment of hirsutism. These medications can mainly decrease the amount of body hair and stop the growth of new hair. Anti-androgens are medications that decrease androgen production and eventually block the action of androgens on the hair follicle.

In addition to medicines many women with surplus hair seek methods of hair removal to manage the appearance of hirsutism. Waxing is a good choice, but you will have to do it at least once a month. Laser hair removal is an effective choice, but the result is not known immediately as it takes many visits to see the results. You can wax once a month to decrease the hair growth. Shaving should be avoided at all costs as it leaves stubble. There are hair removing creams in the market that helps in removing unwanted hair, but the same thing goes for this method as well. You have to use the cream regularly. You have to be watchful and remove the hair by applying the cream when you see little growth

Though, it is known that hirsutism is not a disease, but there is some reason for this excess growth. This hair growth is in those areas where normally women won’t have any hair normally. The different methods to remove such hair are many and you can select any such method. However, if hirsutism is present and hair is removed, the symptomatic hair is removed, and the diagnosis or identifying the reason behind it is not done, then there won’t be a permanent solution to this problem. There are many reasons for hirsutism the first one is the poly cystic ovary syndrome; the second is the Cushing’s disease, tumors in the ovaries or adrenal gland, certain medications, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, insulin resistance, obesity and the women who suffer from an eating disorder, anorexia or bulimia, can grow more hair as their body reacts as a response to its lower capacity to endure changes of temperature.

These all causes can be ruled out medically, but treatment can be done by removing the hair. There is no permanent treatment to this. Women are very conscious of their looks and if they suffer from this problem, then they have to take a solution to this. Using any one method of hair removal can be done so that there is no hair on the face or any other unwanted place.
