Home Remedies for Heartburn

Heartburn is a condition in which there is a burning sensation and pain in the chest region and stomach. This condition is also known as pyrosis. In this disease, the lower esophageal sphincter relaxes and allows for the flow of harsh stomach juices into the esophagus. It gives a burning sensation in the esophagus and pain in the chest and sometimes in the neck, throat angle of jaw also. It is usually associated with the regurgitation of gastric acid. It can affect the quality of life of people. The lining of esophagus can be damaged by the acids resulting in the narrowing of esophagus and ulceration of it. It causes the swallowing of food very difficult. Heartburn can be treated with simple home remedies that are inexpensive and easy to prepare. 

Causes of Heartburn
 
The following are the major causes of heartburn:
 
  • Partial digestion of food in the stomach by the stomach acids and enzymes
  • Overeating causes the stomach to be overloaded with food and acids ultimately leading to acid reflux
  • Pressures in the abdominal region because of obesity or pregnancy pushes the contents of the stomach back to the throat
  • Delayed stomach emptying
  • People suffering from Achalasia are also prone to this disease
  • Drinking alcohol, smoking are prime reasons contributing to this disease
  • Chocolatesandcaffeine
  • Eating fried and spicy food regularly
  • Irregular eating habits
  • Even table salt can increase the chances of this disease by 70%
  • Usage of anti depressants and sedatives

Home Remedy for Heartburn
 
  • Aloe Vera is a very good supplement for the people suffering from this disease. It gives relief from the burning sensations and should be taken several times a day.
  • Consuming buttermilk during heartburn provides immediate relief.
  • Take 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard with about half a glass of water. This would stop heartburn instantly.
  • Tea is like a poison for people for such people and they should stay far away from tea.
  • Drinking Chamomile tea after meals is beneficial in curing hearburn.
  • Another easy home remedy for heartburn is to have half a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water.
  • Have cloves after every meal so decrease the amount of acids present in the stomach.
  • A simple home remedy is to mix half teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and keep drinking this water continuously having dinner.
  • Boil half cup of distilled water and add to it equal amounts of lavender and aniseed (which forms a teaspoon). Let the mixture sit for 3 to5 minutes, then strain and drink it. Drink it in the quantity of 8 oz every morning and evening to get quick relief from acid reflux.
  • Cut a cabbage into pieces and boil this in a pot of water. Let it cook for about 7 minutes. Add some mashed potatoes and a little olive oil to it. This mixture can heal heartburn.
  • Have a lot many vegetables.
  • Take 2 raw potatoes and wash them well. Cut them into pieces without peeling and churn them to extract the juice. Drink the juice immediately. You can also mix it with some other juice for taste.
  • Add ginger root to a cup of water and simmer this for about 10 minutes. Drink it to get immediate relief from heartburn.
  • Mix 1 tablespoonful of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoonful of honey and 1 cup of warm water. This mixture provides instant relief from heartburn.
  • Cinnamon is another useful herb in treating heartburn. Take the tea prepared using cinnamon sticks and drink this twice a day. Another way is to have it as sandwich.
  • Garlic is the best remedy for all diseases including acid reflux. Add garlic as a part of the cooked food of the patients or they can also have raw garlic.
  • Water should be taken continuously in large quantity so as to dilute the acidic contents present in the stomach.
  • Intake of almonds also gives soothing effects.
  • Take one cup of water and boil it for some time. When it is hot enough add one tablespoon of marshmallow root to it. Cover the utensil with a lid and simmer for around fifteen minutes. Strain the decoction and have it for at least 2-3 times every day.
