Home Remedies for Jaundice

Liver is the only organ of our body that if injured, can regenerate on itself. Jaundice is the most prevalent disorder of the liver. It is caused by the hindrance of the bile duct or because of loss of function of bile that produces liver cells. Bile is a digestive juice that helps in the digestion process. In this disease there is an increase in the level and deposits of the bile pigment, bilirubin, in the skin. Due to this, the patient’s skin becomes yellowish in color. The French word “jaune” meaning yellow derives the word jaundice.

Causes of Jaundice
 
  • Obstacle in the bile duct
  • Cirrhosis of liver
  • Cancer of pancreas
  • Narrowing of the duct that is used to transport bile from liver to the small intestine
  • Malaria
  • Some of the diseases also cause jaundice like typhoid, tuberculosis etc
  • Inborn disorders
  • Viral infections
Symptoms of Jaundice
 
  • Loss of appetite
  • Itchiness
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Bad taste in the mouth
  • Swollen liver region
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Diarrhea
  • Lightening of the stool’s color – to clay color
  • Darkening of the urine’s color – to dark yellow
  • Severe fatigue
  • Itching all over the body
  • Skin, nails, mucous membranes, tongue and sclera (white portion of the eye) becomes yellow
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle ache
  • Slight pain in the liver
Home Remedy for Jaundice
 
  • Most easy and beneficial remedy for curing jaundice is to have plenty of lime juice.
  • Take bitter luffa and take out its juice by squeezing and pounding through a cotton cloth. It should not be drank rather take it through your nostrils by placing it on your palm. It is a very effective home remedy for treating jaundice.
  • Carrot juice is yet another very effective remedy for curing jaundice.
  • Mix a pinch of black pepper in small amount of buttermilk. Have it for at least seven days.
  • Take one pound juice of leaves of radish on a regular basis. This juice should be extracted by pounding and mashing in a cotton cloth.
  • Squeeze a lemon’s juice in ½ cup of beet juice and drink this juice daily.
  • Grind the leaves of bael tree (Aegle Marmelos) into a paste and consume it daily as it can cure even the severe cases of jaundice.
  • Prepare an infusion of snake gourd leaves by adding 15 grams of dry leaves in 250 ml of boiling water. Next you prepare a decoction of coriander seeds in 500 ml of water by boiling till it reduces to one third of the original. Mix the infusion with the decoction to form a quantity of around 30-60 ml and drink it three times daily.
  • Prepare decoction of chicory made from boiling its roots, flowers and seeds. Take 60 ml of this everyday for permanent remedy of jaundice.
  • Mix juice of half lemon in a glass of sugarcane juice and drink this preparation daily. As resistance is very low in jaundice so if possible prepare the juice at home so that it is clean and hygienic.
  • Make a find powder grinding the bark of banyan tree. Add one gram of this powder to buttermilk and drink it daily for quick recovery form jaundice.
  • Roast some gram and make a powder. Mix it with a glassful of sugarcane juice and drink it everyday. This provides permanent remedy from jaundice and prevents its recurring. 
  • Drinking sugarcane juice is a helpful home remedy for jaundice.
  • The herb Gokulakanta (Hygrophila Spinosa) is an effective home remedy to treat jaundice.  Boil about 60 grams of the roots and boil with water for about 30 minutes. The decoction should be taken thrice a day in a dose of 60 ml.
  • Add ten grams of fine turmeric powder in 100 grams of curd. Take this once everyday as it is a powerful home remedy to cure jaundice.
  • Add some ginger powder and jaggery to a glass of lukewarm water. Drinking this daily can cure jaundice permanently.
