Home remedies for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a disease that is both chronic and non-contagious. It is characterized by skin rash and itching. The rashes are red and slightly raised covered with silvery, scaling patches on top. The areas usually affected are the scalp, elbows, knees, trunk of the body and fingernails.


Nails are more susceptible to this ailment as they may become rough and pitted in a form of arthritis called psoriatic arthritis. At times, psoriasis can be hereditary. Emotional stress, infections like sore throat, reaction to certain drugs, or skin injuries may make it worse.

 

Psoriasis results due to an overreacted resistant system, which causing inflammation and flaking of skin. However there are various other reasons for its occurrence. Following are a few mentioned here: 

 

1. Abnormality in skin growth

3. Exposure to continuous sunlight

 

4. Infection

 

5. Emotional stress or anxiety

 

6. Climatic changes 

 

 

7. Abnormality with amino acid metabolism

Symptoms of Psoriasis 

 
Psoriasis makes the skin dry, scaly and flaky. On the scalp, it can aggravate and cause excessive dandruff. Psoriasis may also lead to inflammation of the joints known as psoriatic arthritis.
 

1. Red patches on the skin with silvery scales

 

2. Small scaling spots 

 

3. Dry skin with cracks

 

 

4. Itching and burning

 

5. Thickened or ridged nails

 

6. Swollen joints which also become rigid

 

Home Remedies of Psoriasis

 

1. Apply olive oil over the affected body part one of the effective home remedies for psoriasis.

 

2. Coconut oil is highly beneficial in the treatment of psoriasis. A daily intake of 2 teaspoons of coconut oil is a good home remedy for psoriasis. Or it can be applied on the affected skin 3 times daily.

 

3. Take a cup of fresh juice of bitter gourd vegetable, mixed with one tea spoon of limejuice on an empty stomach every day. This needs to be done for four to six months.

 

 

4. Cabbage leaves washed in warm water and dried with a towel should be flattened, softened and smoothed out by rolling them with a rolling pin after removing the thick veins. The leaves should then be applied smoothly to the affected part in an overlapping manner.

 

5. Keeping the skin well moisturized is an effective way to control psoriasis. Petroleum jelly can be applied to the affected areas everyday after bath.

 

6. Drink lot of buttermilk.

 

7. Apply oil of avocado gently to the affected parts. It is an effective home remedy for psoriasis.

 

8. Another effective home remedy for psoriasis is baking soda.  Dissolve baking soda in water and a cloth dipped in this water should be applied on the affected skin several times. This provides relief from itching.

 

9. Take 15-20 sesame seed, soaked in water, on empty stomach early in the morning.

 

10. Take more Vitamin E rich diet for treatment of psoriasis. Spinach, almond oil, sugary potato and sunflower seeds are recommended because of their high Vitamin E content

 

11. Apply mudpacks on the affected areas. This is beneficial for treating psoriasis as they absorb and remove the toxins from the affected areas.

 

12. It is recommended to have regular seawater baths and application of seawater over the affected parts once a day. This is one of the best psoriasis home remedy.

 

13. Marigold lotion is also effective for psoriasis. Boil 4 marigold heads in 4 cups of water for few minutes .After few sec apply this marigold lotion on the affected area.

 

14. Avoid intake of food and products which contain high quantity of caffin.Drinks like tea, coffee and soft drinks weakens the immune system of the body and makes it more susceptible to psoriasis.

 

Diet Recommendation

 

Including lots of natural vitamins and minerals can strengthen the immune system and can be a preventive measure against psoriasis.  Along with vitamins A, C and E the person with psoriasis can take diets that contain antioxidants and Zinc.  The daily diet should include 3 cloves of garlic is highly beneficial in treating psoriasis.
