Home Remedy for Insect Bites

The reaction because of the insect bite can last up to few days. The injured area of the skin can become red and can also swell up. However, in extreme cases the local infection may also last for as long as two years. The reaction of the skin to an insect bite can be broadly classified into three categories- the normal reaction, the large local reaction and the systematic reaction. In local reaction, the bitten area becomes red and causes itchiness and pain to the person. When the area of swelling becomes greater than five centimeters, then a large local reaction is said to have occurred. When the symptoms of bite occur beyond the bitten area, a systematic reaction is said to have occurred.

The most common types of bites or stings include ants, bees, wasps, mosquitoes, spiders and fleas. There may be some additional insects that are common to your part of the country, but rest assured that the treatment would be essentially the same for any bite or sting. The bites that cause serious aftereffects are bees, wasps, fire ants, yellow jackets and hornets. The bites of mosquitoes, biting flies, spiders and ticks generally cause only mild reactions. Home remedies can at times be life saving if used in time.
