How to Control Mind

Mind is the master key that can unlock your inner strength to take control of your life.  Controlling your mind can help achieve all your fond goals. 

Being able to control the mind successfully ensures health, freedom from stress, confidence, happiness, harmony, positive thinking and contentment in your life, making it easier to contribute meaningfully to society. 
 
Reducing the stress in life and being able to accept the tightrope walk of everyday life with equanimity is the first successful attempt towards controlling the mind.  How does one learn to face stress and tension in order to avoid negative thoughts and depression?
 
Good Health

A healthy body nurtures a happy disposition.  Eat sensibly; spend some time in peaceful meditation and exercise regularly (include regular breathing exercises to calm you down) to remain healthy in body, mind and spirit. 
 
Fear

If you can face challenges bravely, and conquer the fear of taking essential risks, it is an important step in the direction of controlling your mind.
 
Honesty

If you are frank and speak out your feelings it helps reduce the stress caused by suppressing thoughts.  Unexpressed feelings and thoughts about an issue usually snowball into misdirected anger and undue tension. 
 
Different Strokes

There are several ways in which you can prompt yourself towards positive action.  Here are some examples

  • Begin the day with brisk exercise and a nutritious breakfast
  • Take a walk in your garden or a park and enjoy the fragrance of the greenery
  • Play the music of your choice that can help
  • Arrange your work table neatly the previous day in order to feel motivated to start work right away
  • Develop the practice of making your kitchen gleam after supper so that you can begin the new day’s work with enthusiasm.  Keep fresh flowers and herbs around the kitchen; the color and fragrance will help you go through even the mundane tasks cheerfully
Obstacles

Obstacles are a part of everyday life.  If you think only about these problems you tend to become depressed.  Instead, focus on how the burden of these obstacles can be removed or eased away from your shoulders.
 
Action Review

Spend some time every day reviewing your attitude and behavior in the past.  Identify what caused you to flare up, what made you feel happy and when you felt at peace with yourself.  Analyze the reasons for your behavior and chalk out a pattern for quality changes in your attitude and day-to-day functioning.  For instance, if you want to improve your grades, visualize the impact of better grades on your career and future schooling rather than just repeating to yourself that you should do better.

The background

When you go through the day, it is vital that you feel good all the time to accomplish anything you want.  Some people opt for some soothing music playing in the background while they study, work or relax, while there are some others who prefer being engulfed in silence.  If the background sounds, smells and sights are able to help manage your thoughts, then it is important to pay attention to them! However, if the background tends to create unwanted distractions then it is better to do without them.
