Steps to Giving Yourself a Manicure at Home

1. Remove any watch, bangle or ring you may be wearing.

2. Use cotton and nail polish remover to remove old nail polish. Keep the cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover on the nail for about 5 seconds and gently wipe.

3. Soak your fingers in a bowl of olive oil for about fifteen minutes to soften the cuticles and allow hydration.

4. Add a few drops of shampoo to warm water and soak your hands in it for about 15 minutes.

5. Rub your hands with ground oatmeal to exfoliate. Oatmeal is a gentle yet effective defoliant. Professionals use granulated sugar for sensitive skin.

6. Wash hands well and applies hand cream on the cuticles.

7. Glycerine can be applied on very coarse palms to soften them.

8. Use the orangewood stick to push the cuticles. Wipe dry with a towel

9. Use nail clippers to gently clip the nails.

10 . File the nails in the desired shape. Move the nail file in one direction only. Using the file in a back and forth tends to weaken the nails

11. Apply nail polish over the nails. To apply polish, dip the brush in polish and wipe off excess. Use a maximum of three steady strokes to cover each nail. Let dry.

12. Professional manicurists apply at least 2 coats of polish on nails.

13. Once the nail polish is dry, use a moisturised cream to massage the hands and fingers.

14. For a French manicure, follow all the steps as detailed above. Shape the nails into ovals. Paint the lower part of the nails in clear nail polish. Paint the nail tips with white nail polish.

I wasn't all about jumping on the stehtar bandwagon but then it came in silver. So I gave it a shot. My first application did not go well. However, I figured out that it IS truly all in the application. 1. Be sure your polish is completely dry before applying the stehtar. 2. Be sure to shake thoroughly. 3. BE SURE TO APPLY THE THINNEST COAT!! This is what gives you the best stehtar experience. I was skeptical that it would look anything like the pictures. If applied correctly, it looks great!
