Myths About Bottled Distilled Water

We have many perceptions about the sources of water we use for drinking. Water is bottled only for the purpose of drinking. In many places, tap water is not potable. Yet people using it for drinking honor it as good water. Some people who are aware about the facts of water chemistry try to use them after filtering and boiling. However, in general users are not fully aware of the quality of water they use for drinking. We believe the brands and buy bottled water thinking that it is mineral water. We may be deceived if we come to know that this bottled water most of the times is just filtered water. Tap water is normally used for bathing and washing purposes. However, in places where water scarcity is felt severely, people living there use the tap water for drinking too. In most of the cities government take the responsibility of water supply. They claim that this water is potable, but in the experience of many city dwellers this water is of poor quality. People spell out their own opinions about the water they use and many of them turn into myths.

Facts Of Brands Distilled Water

People see the advertisements and conclude that the bottled water of the advertised brand contains minerals in it to compensate the deficiencies in our body. This is a myth. No one has gone to the volcanoes with containers to capture the mineral water. Neither this water has been prepared from snowflakes. It could be after all the water supplied by the municipality. Many manufacturers of mineral water just filter this water and label it as mineral water. If you filter and boil the tap water it also can be as good as this bottled water

So, bottled water is better than tap water is a myth.

Purified water has better taste is another myth.

Distilled water is thought to be the purest, but it has no taste. The reason is that many minerals such as sodium, magnesium, calcium and chlorides are left out in this process. Tap water tastes better as it contains some of these minerals. However, chlorinated water only gives some pungent smell.

It is a myth that bottled water contains vitamins or protein for betterment of health.

All these attributes are for decorating the label, not for making any such vitamins available in the water. If at all it contains any additives, remember, it is not good for your health. Tap water contains fluoride which is good for your health if within limits. Take lots of water every day is the slogan of the day. Some say it is 8 ounces day; some say it is 8 – 10 glasses a day. The recommendation of medical experts, however, is 91 ounces of fluid a day, that too for women. Anyway, 80% of this fluid should be obtained from water.

Another myth is that bottled water is best after a workout.

Any clean water will serve the purpose of getting back the minerals lost during the workout. It is not necessary that you should get bottled water only, thinking that it would compensate these losses.

Another dangerous myth is that bottles are environment friendly as they can be recycled.

The truth is that 86% of the water bottles are discarded after use.
