Pregnancy Week 23

Size Of Baby In Twenty Third Week

During the twenty third week of pregnancy the weight of the baby becomes around one pound which is quite huge if one compares it with the weight of the baby during the early weeks of pregnancy. The size of the baby is roughly around eleven inches by this time. Wrinkles on the baby’s skin can be observed by this week and the redness on the skin still remains during this phase of the pregnancy. One can also feel the movement of the baby in the womb especially in an environment where high decibel noises can be heard. If the baby is delivered within the twenty third week of pregnancy then its chances of surviving are approximately fifteen to seventy percent. There are many factors which contribute to the survival of the baby. So there have been cases where a baby weighing just one pound during the time of birth has survived and lead a normal life whereas there are also some unfortunate cases where the premature baby could not survive. Mental disabilities are one of the major shortcomings that a premature baby can experience in his life.

Premature Birth

It is said that after the twenty sixth week of pregnancy the rate of survival of the baby becomes ninety percent. In simple words, if you deliver your baby after the twenty sixth week of pregnancy, then there are ninety percent chances for its survival. According to statistics, if your baby is male than its chances of survival are much less when compared to female babies as the former is less matured during the time of premature delivery. Complication can arise during the time of delivery if the mother suffers from high blood pressure or diabetes. The size of the uterus during the twenty third of pregnancy is about one and half inches. Since the baby gets a lot of space to move around due to the expansion in the uterus, one can easily feel the movements of the baby during this time.

False Labor Pains During Pregnancy

Braxton hicks are prevalent usually during the second trimester of pregnancy. Women find it difficult to differentiate between Braxton hicks and labor contractions, especially if it is their first pregnancy. Braxton hicks are generally less painful than the labor contraction and their occurrence is also less frequent. False labor is also a term which is used for Braxton hicks as its frequency starts increasing with the progress in the pregnancy. Through Braxton Hicks the cervix gets accustomed for dilation that is necessary during the time of delivery. If you observe that the pain stops the moment you change your position, than it is the sign of Braxton hicks and not the actual labor pain. Dehydration can also increase the frequency of Braxton hicks, so it is necessary to have adequate amount of water. If you have pain in your lower back and there is watery discharge during the time of contraction then it can be a sign of labor. During this time one should contact their doctor immediately in order to verify the cause of such contractions.
