Understanding Diet Plateau

What is a diet plateau? A diet plateau is when after following a certain diet plan for a while the desired effects start to show on your body. You strive to follow the same plan as it seems to be working quite well enough for you. Finally, after so much of hardship your body and its metabolism system seems to be responding to this particular diet and you are actually shedding weight and you can see in front of your mirror every day the unsightly bulges disappearing. Then suddenly all this changes. You continue with the same diet but it no longer seems to have the same effect on your body. You check your eating plan but you are doing and eating everything that is suggested. Then, you wonder why did the weight loss stop?

This is called reaching a diet plateau in dieting terms. This is a stage in your dieting cycle when you neither lose nor gain any weight. However, there are ways in which you can beat this diet plateau to its own game.
During the first few days or weeks of the diet your body tends to respond very well this particular diet. Just like how we respond to anything new that comes our way. The body metabolism is high and the calories that you are consuming by way of your diet are low. This results in immediate weight loss. Then, slowly your body gets accustomed to getting fewer calories and slows down its metabolism rate. This is the bodies’ way of adjusting to the fewer calories and less energy requirement. Therefore the weight that you lose is minimalistic or none at all.
 
The harder you try to lose weight in this phase the more will your body resist it and you will end up losing not even an ounce for all the effort that you have gone through.
 
When will you know that you have reached a plateau? That will be when you continue with the diet that you have been following and still your weight remains that same for more than a week. Your weighing scales seem to be stuck on one figure mark perpetually.
 
This is the time not to get disheartened but just continue with the diet plan. If you lose motivation now and do not pursue it then you will slide back to the exact spot that you were at initially.
 
In fact, during the entire cycle of dieting you will experience diet plateaus several times. Remember, that it is a temporary factor and shouldn’t stop you from the diet plan.
 
Sometimes, when people are on a diet they tend to think that they do not need to exercise. This is a false misconception on their part. If they were to continue with the exercises and activities they will be able to keep their metabolisms rates going which will help them to burn calories faster. This in turn will show in their weight loss and ultimately the diet plateau will become shorter for them.
