Vitamin D Important for Lung Function

Vitamin D has characteristics which can help in improving lung functions. It can also help in improving the overall health of the lungs and it can also decrease diseases such as asthma. Vitamin D deficiency is generally found in people who smoke. Vitamin D can help the lungs to function properly and in turn one can lead an active life. According to a research report it was found that people who had healthy lungs had higher levels of vitamin D in their body. Usually doctors suggest that one should remain exposed to the sunlight for around fifteen minutes on a daily basis so that they can one can get the required dose of vitamin D. Fish, green vegetables, eggs, etc are some of the foods through which one can attain vitamin D.

Vitamin D important for lung function is a fact that is vouched by many doctors and deficiency of the same can cause diabetes, osteoporosis, various types of cancer, hypertension, etc. When there is dearth of vitamin D in children then it can cause conditions such as asthma. Vitamin D supplements are recommended for people who live in places where the level of sunlight is quite low. Earlier vitamin D was only known for its ability to strengthen the bones but off late research has proved that it can alleviate many conditions such as diabetes, asthma, cancer, etc. According to a recent research report it has been found that women, who take adequate vitamin D supplements during pregnancy, can reduce their baby’s risk of contracting certain respiratory diseases.

At times, the body does not get the required amount of vitamin D from the diet or the sun exposure and in such cases one needs to take the help of vitamin D supplements in order to ensure that they do not suffer from vitamin D deficiency. When calcium supplements are taken along with vitamin D supplements then the chances of contracting cancer also decreases. People who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease should be given vitamin D supplements because their body does not receive the right amount of vitamin D which can eventually result in bone fractures. Vitamin D important for lung function is a result that has been derived through many research reports and in order to keep our lungs in a healthy state, it is necessary to maintain proper levels of vitamin D in our body. Vitamin D tends to get depleted in people who smoke regularly and therefore it is imperative to quit smoking if one aspires to keep their lungs in a healthy state.
