Yoga for Glowing Skin

Yoga is the most popular form of exercise today. It is a discipline which exercises each part of the body and leads to better mind and body co-ordination. Regular practice of yoga slows down ageing and infuses lustre to the face. Yoga works to flush out toxins from the body, balances the glandular system and works to make the body beautiful- from inside and out.

She prefers to keep the windows closed and fans and air-conditioner switched off during her yoga sessions. Kareena‘s glowing porcelain skin, which she credits to daily pranayam, allows her to go out completely free of makeup. 

 

Shilpa Shetty Yoga Regime:  Shilpa Shetty-Kundra’s shiny tresses, glowing skin and perfect figure are also due to her daily yoga practice. Her yoga routine, attractively packaged in a DVD for the benefit of her fans, has been marketed under her fitness line.

 

The Yoga Way to Beautiful Skin

 

Yogasanas aimed at beautiful skin work by increasing blood flow to the torso, face and neck. This can be achieved through:

  1. Relaxing facial muscles

  2. Yogasanas to increase blood flow and eliminate toxins from the body

  3. Increased intake of oxygen.

 

Relaxation of Facial Muscles

 

Yoga-Sutra Recommends Massaging the Face and Head and To Relax the Facial Muscles 

 

Procedure: Use the four fingers held flat to gently rub the forehead 8-10 times. Move to the cheeks and lightly rub the cheeks and jawline. Cup your closed eyes in the palms till a count of 10. Pinch the lobes of the ears and pull the ears downwards. Use the index fingers of both hands to firmly rub the sides of the nose. Place the palm of the hand firmly on the crown of the head and rotate the scalp gently in the clockwise and anti -clockwise direction.

 

Yogasanas for Improved Blood Flow and Toxin Elimination

 

Yogasanas which involve inversion of the body are very good for a glowing complexion. This group of exercises includes asanas like Halasana, Uttanasana, Adhomukhaswahnasana and Vipritakarni. In each of these poses, the neck and face are at a lower level than the torso. This causes increased blood flow to the face, which improves flow of oxygen and elimination of toxins to the skin cells.

 

 

Another group of exercises which cause twisting of the torso and massaging of the digestive system causes toning of the digestive and excretory systems, leading to elimination of toxins from the body. This group of exercises includes Gomukhasana, Navasana and Ardhamatsyaendrasana.

 

 

Yogasanas For Increased Intake Of Oxygen

 

Pranayama are yogic kriyas for breath control. Pranayama ideally should be done in the early morning, preferably in the open and on an empty stomach. The kriyas recommended for glowing skin are Bhastrika, Kapalbhati and Anulom Vilom.

 

As a stress buster, Shavasana has no match. At the end of a workout session, cooling down in the Shavasana posture is mandatory in yoga.
