“You are what you eat” is a very prominent adage and it holds a lot of truth in it. The body requires the right combination of fluids and foods in order to function normally. A healthy diet should consist of food groups such as fat, protein and carbohydrates. But they should be consumed in the right quantity in order to ensure good health. The quantity of food that needs to be consumed by a person mainly depends on his vital statistics, age and gender. One can notice that every country follows a specific diet. If the American diet is taken into consideration, then one can notice that it consists of high amount of cholesterol in it and therefore obesity and the development of heart ailments is quite common there.
The right amount of fiber should be a part of your diet because lack of the same can lead to constipation. Obesity most of the times are caused by excessive consumption of fat and sugar based foods. Carbohydrates are very easy to acquire as they can be found in basic foods such as potatoes, bread, etc. These foods can add a little amount of fiber to the body as well. Fresh fruit also contains carbohydrates and fibers in them, so one must include fruits in their diet. Meat is a good source of protein and it can infuse a lot of energy in the body. Red meat should be avoided by people who want to loose weight or are suffering from heart ailments because even though they are a good source of protein but it contains a lot of cholesterol as well, which is not good for the health of the heart. One can consume lentils and nuts which are high in protein but low in fat and they also have good fiber content.
Fats are necessary for the body because it provides the body with energy, and it also helps in absorbing certain types of vitamins. One needs to be careful while including saturated fats in their diets as it can give rise to many health related problems. Most of the heart diseases take place due to the excessive consumption of saturated fats as it tends to block the arteries. Therefore one needs to balance their diet with the consumption of unsaturated fats. “You are what you eat”, might sound quite clichéd sometimes but if this adage is taken seriously then it will help us to lead a healthy life.
